The Writist

Console Recommendation

  • PlayStation 4: One year in and the PS4 is still king of the next-gen wars. Even the recent 50 dollar price drop for the Xbox One can't sway my everlasting love for Sony's console. The PlayStation Plus subscription sweetens the deal with exclusive deals, trials, and free games. If you buy the PlayStation 4 this holiday, you'll get more power, more content, and more fun.

Game Recommendations

  • Infamous: Second Son: Sony has some of the greatest exclusive games around. With Infamous: Second Son, you will get a visually stunning game that is just as much fun to play as it is to look at. Being able to fly around town and change powers at a moments' notice is a great feeling. You really feel like you have super powers.
  • Outlast: If you're a fan of scary games then look no further than Outlast. This is one of the scariest games I have played in a long time. Everything from the level design to the music and sound design make this independent video game seem like a triple-A title. Definitely recommend playing with surround sound.
  • GTA V: Even though this is an HD remake of the groundbreaking title from last year, it's still definitely worth buying. Rockstar really worked hard on the game to create an even more living, breathing Los Santos. The better draw distance, more detailed textures, and higher pedestrian and traffic count make for a terrific game. The feature that has everybody talking is the first-person viewpoint. This is completely new to the GTA franchise and should definitely add even more fun to an already outstanding game.

Accessory Recommendations

  • PlayStation Camera: Sony has a free application called Playroom that is essentially useless without the Camera peripheral. But the measly 60 dollars for the camera is worth it. You can stream your actions to others across the globe, play fun mini-games, and create your own Augmented Reality items and play with them. It's loads of fun for the entire family.
  • PlayStation Plus: Technically, since the Playstation Plus subscription isn't mandatory, it counts as an accessory. At least to me it does. And this is probably the best accessorie you can get for any console. With a PS Plus subscription you get access to early content, one to two free games (for PS4, PS3, and Vita), exclusive discounts, and full-game trials. The amount of content that PS Plus gives you is absolutely amazing and can be purchased for $9.99 for one month, $17.99 for 3 months, and $49.99 for a year.
