Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, nerds of all ages, gather ’round! Warner Brothers and Zack Snyder have unveiled quite a treat! On May 12th, Zack Snyder tweeted a sneak peek of the new Batmobile for the untitled Batman vs. Superman sequel to 2013’s Man of Steel. On May 13th, Snyder unveiled much more than the Batmobile. He tweeted a picture of the new Batmobile as well as the new Batsuit…and it’s awesome!
The very first thing to notice is HOLY HELL look at the size of Ben Affleck! He bulked up to play the role of Bats and it certainly shows. But damn, he looks like he’s seen some shit. The second thing to notice is that the new outfit has certainly taken some cues from Frank Miller’s comic The Dark Knight Returns with the short ears and fat bat logo. My only worry for the outfit is that it looks a bit stiff. Will Affleck be able to execute agile movements? The Batmobile also looks like a cross between the Nolan Batmobile and the Tim Burton Batmobile with a slight Schumacherian (just made that up) twist.
I must admit that I was more than worried when I originally heard that Affleck was chosen to play Batman in the Man of Steel sequel. I was then even more worried when I read that Jesse Eisenberg was cast as Lex Luthor. I began to doubt Zack Snyder’s choices. But this picture alone has completely restored my faith in Snyder. I’m now excited to see what Wonder Woman and Lex will look like. After seeing what Affleck will look like as Batman in this new movie, 2016 can’t come fast enough.
This now leaves some unanswered questions. What storyline will this new film follow? Will it have anything to do with Miller’s story due to the costume resemblance? How exactly will Snyder introduce Batman? These are all questions I’m eager to have answered. Either way Michael Wilkinson, the designer of the costume, deserves an Oscar for kick-assery already.
