Plot Synopsis: After splitting with the Joker, Harley Quinn joins superheroes Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya to save a young girl from an evil crime lord.-Via IMDB

1st Impression:  While DC does have a Suicide Squad follow up on deck the Birds of Prey film is more of a sequel in my eyes as Harley Quinn is no longer with Joker (Jared Leto) and the film follows her life after that “break up”. While Birds of Prey is considered an ensemble film this trailer makes it feel more like Harley's film with the Birds of Prey along for the ride. We do get some scenes with Huntress, Black Canary, and Renee Montoya but all eyes are on Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn from start to finish. While I get that Harley needs to be leveraged to grab casual fans I feel that may do more harm than good.

The film's villain is Black Mask and while Ewan McGregor has the chops to play a villain I personally did not like what I saw so far and I am hoping that later trailers give us a bit more of the character. While Black Mask was not wearing his signature mask in the trailer I am sure we'll see it at some point. At least I hope we do since that is a rather important detail.

Overall the trailer had a lot of style but really lacked substance. We'll see if that changes in future trailers.
