After what I felt was a lukewarm presentation from Microsoft and a down right cringe worthy offering from Ubisoft due to the douchey Mr. Caffeine I was looking forward to seeing Sony’s offerings. I must admit that as much as I shit on Sony for certain things I will be the first to admit that the Playstation Vita is a beautiful piece of hardware that if marketed correctly will prove a worthy challenger for Nintendo on the portable gaming battlefield. The PS Vita comes armed with a ton of enhancements such as:
- Front & Back multi-touch screens
- Motion & Six Axis sensors
- OLED display
- Wi-Fi, 3G and GPS connectivity
- Dual analog sticks
- Front & Rear cameras with augmented reality capabilities
- PS3 gameplay transferring on compatible titles
Here is a glimpse of what you can expect from the Vita
One of the most impressive showings was for the always fun Little Big Planet. It was a great demo showcasing some the of the Vita’s functionality.
You will have the option of purchasing the console with Wi-Fi ($249) or Wi-Fi + 3G ($299) . The 3G component will be through a partnership with AT&T which is sure to ruffle quite a few feathers given AT&T’s reputation. Various outlets are reporting that AT&T will offer a special plan for Vita owners. Cost as of this post is unknown. Vita will no doubt be huge for the holiday season. We can only hope that Sony releases a solid launch line up and doesn’t drop the ball like they did with the PSP/PSP Go
