Ninja Gaiden was one of my favorite series of games – until I played this third installment. The story of this game is an absolute convoluted mess . It makes not one single bit of sense. Honestly, none of the games in this series have had great stories, but this one was especially bad. I honestly could not tell you what was going on – it had something to do with Ryu fucking up his arm and a god being created or something…I don’t know, it was just horrible. The game wants you to get to know Ryu, but it does a really poor job of making you give a damn about him. All I want to do is kill people as a ninja, I don’t care about Ryu’s personal issues.

The graphics are one of the few high points of the game. Like its predecessors. the graphics on NG3 are very good with nice lighting and blood effects. The only real gripe I have about them is that they took away the ability to dismember and maim the bad guys, which was one of the cooler parts of the second installment. In my opinion, this was a completely stupid thing to leave out of the game.

The controls in Ninja Gaiden 3 are just like the other two games. However, at some point in the development they decided to completely screw up the camera to the point that at times it is almost impossible to see what the hell is going on. It is 2012, there should never be a game with camera issues this bad. It is extremely disappointing.

You know what is a complete and utter waste of time? Ninja Gaiden 3 Multiplayer mode. It isn’t fun, the camera acts like it is on speed, and there isn’t anyone to ever actually play on it.

To put it frankly, this is one of the worst sequels I have played in a long time. I don’t get why so many changes were made because everything that was changed now sucks.

  1. raw review, I believe this is the result of the loss of Tomonobu Itagaki from team ninja. I agree with you that the Ninja Gaiden series has never really been strong on story. The series in the past has been able to make good use of the cutsences, moving along the action and setting the epic scenes of violence at. I wish they could have allowed Itagaki to finish this series with his official flare.
Nice to have more company in the video game column.
