Capcom Breaks Promise With Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition - ultimate edition.

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition – and the Crowd Goes “Meh”

I am going to start this by saying that Capcom has time to fix this and I certainly hope that they do so. Everyone loved Street Fighter IV with the exception of its constant re-releases with new features. Capcom took note of that and made a promise when they announced Street Fighter V: they said there would be ONE version of the game that would receive updates via download. As of January 16, 2018, that promise will be broken when Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition comes to PC and PlayStation 4. . . for $39.99.

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition - Arcade Menu

Now don't get me wrong, there is a whole lot of awesome to be had with this update. Arcade Mode has six different choices which will let you relive the story modes of the past games. Honestly, that is worth some money on its own. Extra Battle Mode will provide additional challenges for players and the chance to earn new costumes each month. There will be a gallery Mode, a new UI and I am sure the game will be re-balanced. You might ask why I even care that Capcom broke their word about SFV having only one release.

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition - bonus stage

The answer to that lie in the title of the series: the issue is fighters. Those who plunk down $0 and but Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition will get almost everything that has come out thus far. The wording of the press release leads me to believe that they will still have to unlock or pay for existing costumes and stages. Here is a rundown of exactly what is included in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition:

  • Arcade Mode
  • Extra Battle Mode
  • New V-trigger moves
  • Gallery
  • New User Interface
  • Season 1 DLC characters*
  • Season 2 DLC characters*

*Content not available for free to current Street Fighter V players, but can be accessed using earned Fight Money or purchased in-game currency. For purchasers of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, this content will be redeemable via a download code token.

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition - Akuma vs. Menat

That is taken directly from the press release. This is what I would love to be wrong about and I said at the beginning that Capcom has time to correct. Those who purchase the game in January will get all of the world warriors in the game. Early adopters that bought the original version will not gain access to fighters they have not already unlocked via fight money or real currency. That is unfair on Capcom's part, especially when you consider that people have paid anywhere from sixty to one hundred (U.S.) dollars for the game alone.

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition - PS4 box art

I implore Capcom to do right by its loyal fanbase. These are the people that made it possible for a Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition to even happen. Make this even for those that already have the game. Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition will launch digitally on PC and have both a digital and physical PS4 release on January 16, 2018.
