Bleacher Report announced today that the USADA has cleared Cris “Cyborg” Justino and she will not be facing suspension for her recent out of competition drug test failure. The USADA released the following statement via their website:
“USADA announced today that UFC athlete Cristiane Justino, of Curitiba, Brazil, has been granted a retroactive Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) and will therefore not face an anti-doping policy violation after testing positive for a prohibited substance in December of 2016,”
USADA also shared that the drug found in Cyborg's system was Spironolactone which is listed as prohibited substance. Cyborg stated the positive test result was due to a prescribed medication for an endocrine disorder. Cyborg was cooperative with the USADA from start to finish providing information via multiple interviews and consenting to her physician being questioned as part of the investigation.
Cyborg is now free to resume her MMA career and we all know that a UFC Women's Featherweight title opportunity is waiting for her.
