Does “The Avengers” Movie Have A Director?? Oh, please, oh please!!!

So by now, you all must know that there is a movie in the works for “The Avengers”. No news there. However, multiple sources are telling us that there may indeed be a director for this flick.

This director I speak of is none other than the fan-frigging-tastic Joss Whedon!!!!! Yup, that's right – the man behind such wonderous TV as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly and Dollhouse as well as the author of the Dark Horse Comics miniseries Fray, will take on a big role as director of this comic-to-movie plan.

Many people think that Whedon is an interesting, maybe risky choice – despite his writing/producing credits, which are stellar, his only feature directing effort, Serenity, was not a blockbuster by any means. (Although it has a HUGE cult following, which stands for something in my book.)

The mega-spinoff that is the upcoming Avengers adaptation is lumping together Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and more Marvel superheroes into one (hopefully) action-packed extravaganza that will more than likely rake in millions of dollars. Thus far, we already have Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury, and the newly announced Chris Evans as Captain America on board for this flick. Let's see who else they throw in there, and who the rest of the casting choices are.

Marvel Comics has not commented on this directing news as of yet, but hopefully no news is good news. The ink's got to dry first, I suppose. I for one, really hope this happens, as I am a huge Joss Whedon fan.

The Avengers, as of now, has a tentative release slated to be in the first weekend of May, 2012. Will you be visiting the theatres for this one? What do you think of Whedon as director? Sound off below:
