Nothing is more disheartening than reading that gaming continues to be the scapegoat for violent crimes. When are we going to take accountability for being shitty human beings.  Violent crimes are perpetrated regardless of visual stimuli and the sooner people realize that the better off we'll be. The article below is a shining example that gaming has a long way to go before politicians stop using it as a scapegoat.

Game violence to blame for rise in knife attacks, says police commissioner

Games have been publicly slammed by a police commissioner in Australia for inciting a rise in knife crime, because they let children act out ‘virtual crimes' and earn incentives for violent acts in-game.

The statement released by New South Wales Police Commissioner Andrew Scipone below is particularly disturbing since it fails to cite other factors that lead to violent behavior.

“How can it not affect you if you're a young adolescent growing up in an era where to be violent is almost praiseworthy, where you engage in virtual crime on a daily basis and many of these young people (do) for hours and hours on end,” he said.

Environments and upbringing play a bigger role than gaming in regards to crime. We have a rating system for games for a reason and if parents aren't doing their part to protect their kids than who's really to blame?
