Grand Theft Auto V Lets the Rockets Red Glare This Week

To celebrate the country that made it great, Rockstar is updating the Grand Theft Auto V Online mode with the Independence Day Special. The next time you load up your game, your console will download this update automatically and you will be able to start enjoying some new content. Players can look forward to now being able to shoot fireworks, a “new” weapon in the Musket and the ability to now ride the Ferris Whale and Leviathan roller coaster down at the Pleasure Pier amusement park. This is a limited time update unlike the last few, so take advantage starting today.

The update will feature both the pride of American patriotism and shame of American excess. Players will be able to don American flag and “Made in the U.S.A.” t-shirts or crush everything in sight as they shout “SUNDAY! SUNDAY SUNDAY!” in the new Liberator monster truck. If you want slightly better gas mileage, you and your pals can purchase the Sovereign motorcycle and cruise the back roads of Blaine County like a real motorcycle gang. A nice selection of fireworks will be available at Ammu-Nation along with the Musket and I look forward to seeing the creative light shows some of you will put together. Rockstar has not yet announced an expiration date on this content, but it is expected that it will be available through mid-July.

On the more business side of things, the update will add seven new properties to the already extensive list of locations you can purchase. Now that players can own two properties, having more choices is fantastic. Check out your new clothes and masks in your closet as your friends party with strippers at new homes available in Paleto Bay and Vinewood Hills. Please note that while PS3 owners will just need the update, Xbox 360 players will once again need the update and an additional compatibility pack will be downloaded the first time they enter Grand Theft Auto Online. Once again, this update is available today, but Rockstar tomorrow will be announcing an Independence Weekend event, so look for that information here starting tomorrow.

For more information on the update, visit the Rockstar Newswire and for a full description of all the fixes included in this update, make sure to read the 1.15 notes located at Rockstar Support. So what are you waiting for? It’s time for some grillin’ & killin’!
