On The 12th Day of Christmas, MTR Gave To Me, Their Favorite Christmas Movies…

We’ve all seen the customary list of best Holiday films, which are usually pretty standard across the board. Most of the classics are always included but it seems our staff has their own picks for interesting holiday films that have become a staple in their homes for the holidays. Please note that these films are in no particular order. If you guys have your own favorites feel free to share them in the comments.

Here are Andrea’s Top 5:

A Christmas Story – Ahh yes, bunny pajamas, BB guns and tongues stuck to lightpoles. The true meaning of Christmas!

Elf – Will Ferrell is the best elf ever…period! Smiling's my favorite!!

Home Alone – Seriously, does anyone NOT think of Kevin McCallister during the Christmas season? I think not.

Scrooged – Classic! Bill Murray and Bobcat Goldthwait make this version of A Christmas Carol a must-see.

Deck the Halls – Danny Devito and Matthew Broderick bickering over whose decorations are better? This movie always makes me laugh and also makes my decorations look weak. But it's okay. I wouldn't want that electricity bill anyway.

Honorable Mention: Mickey’s Christmas Carol – because who doesn't love Mickey Mouse?

Handel share his picks and I must say, they are some eclectic choices:

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

March of the Wooden Soldiers

A Christmas Story

Gremlins

Trains, Planes and Automobiles

John Blade has a pretty solid list of classics we all know and love:

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

A Christmas Story

Elf

Adam Sandler’s Eight Crazy Nights

Home Alone 2

New MTR staff member Jay Santy not only has his five favorite films, but shares his reasons for choosing them:

5 (Tie). Home Alone/ Home Alone 2

If you have to watch one screaming kid alone in a house stopping burglars, might as well watch another one – but this time in New York City.

4. Die Hard

Bruce Willis, guns, terrorists, and Christmas. These are the gifts that keep on giving. YIPPIE KAI YAY MOTHER…!

3. Elf

An oversized elf that can make Christmas and burping cool for an adult is what the true meaning of the Holiday season is all about.

2. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Live Action)

Bah humbug to the cartoon! This Jim Carrey/Ron Howard collaboration makes this depressing story hilarious. One of the last of the funny Carrey movies, unfortunately.

1. A Christmas Story

The phrase “You’ll shoot your eye out kid” will forever be locked in my Christmas lexicon. From getting stuck to a frozen pole, the leg lamp, and eating a Christmas duck, this movie will always be my number one Christmas movie.

Ben brings some classics along with two films that are in my top ten of Christmas movies.

Scrooged

A Christmas Story

Elf

Jingle All The Way

A Nightmare Before Christmas

Last but not least here is my list of holiday movies. While I have more than five the ones chosen get watched every year without fail and are in particular order.

Santa Claus The Movie – I have watched this movie every Christmas since I was a kid. One of the first Christmas movies my mom took me to when I was five.

Batman Returns – While not your run of the mill Christmas fare it is a film that always ends up on TV during the holidays.

Scrooged – Bill Murray was amazing in this reimagining of the Dickens classic. Besides Murray there was a great ensemble cast of excellent comedians like Billy Crystal and Carol Kane.

Miracle On 34th Street – While the remake with Richard Attenborough was good it does not compare to the 1947 classic with Edmund Gwen which I watched last night as I have for many years.

Bad Santa – I was shocked that no one else on the staff picked this. Bill Bob Thornton was funnier than I thought he could be and it grew on me over the years.

Ernest Saves Christmas – I was eight when I first saw this film and while the comedy hasn’t aged well it remains a guilty pleasure.

All the movies mentioned here are available in the MTR Amazon store. What are some of your favorite holiday movies? Feel free to share them on the fan page or in the comments below.
