With the closing of 2013, many wrestling pages are having their “Year-End Reviews” or “Wrestler of the Year” and whatnot. Well, seeing as though I only have been writing this column a few short weeks, I am not that arrogant to do such a thing. But, I am arrogant enough to write a quick note of who I personally feel are the Face of the Year and Heel of the Year. Not surprising, John Cena is the Face of the Year. This dude can’t do anything wrong! With the Make-a-Wish Foundation and his work ethic, this guy needs to be given Boy Scout of the Century Award. Heel of the Year goes to…drum roll please, CM Punk! That’s right! I am on the bandwagon! I am a follower! CM Punk has taken the heel role and re-mastered it with throwback heat creations to new school presentations. With that being said, I bring to you…

Face/Heel of the Week

Face of the Week-John Cena (WWE)

As much as I hate to say it, John Cena impressed the hell out of me this past week. In fact, Cena has done pretty much an impressive move all through the year. While many believe we have been force-fed Cena through the years, in 2012 Cena has taken a step back and allowed others to shine, well, maybe for a moment. This past Monday on RAW, during a segment which featured Dolph Ziggler and AJ Lee berating Cena after the WWE Universe presented Cena with Superstar of the Year, Cena hit the stage and denounced he deserved the award and critiqued his own performance this past year. Mr. Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect even dropped a small pipe bomb himself by criticizing Ziggler on his backstage attitude and previous gimmicks (see Spirit Squad). John Cena has vowed that this year he will win the WWE Championship and continue to be the jorts and ball cap wearing man the majority of women and children love and men hate.

Heel of the WeekWade Barrett (WWE)

Who amongst us wrestling fans has ever looked at another man, throw on a British accent, and said “I’ll hit you with a Barrett Barrage”? Okay, maybe I’m the only one, but with the week Wade Barrett is having, everyone needs to recognize the ability of the man with the Owen Wilson nose. After capturing the Intercontinental Championship on the New Year’s Eve edition of RAW, Barrett has made a tremendous comeback from a dislocated elbow which left him out of commission for seven months. With new facial hair and a mean streak worse than before, Barrett has added The Bull Hammer (a reverse back elbow to his opponent’s mug) to his arsenal to complement his Wasteland finisher. After winning the title from Kofi Kingston (which by the way was one of the best Intercontinental Championship matches we have seen in a while) Barrett was able to defend the title on Smackdown with another compelling and entertaining match up against Kingston. Since his start in NXT, Wade Barrett keeps getting better and better with the looks of shinier gold coming his way.

    • Quark he attempted Wasteland on Kofi on Smackdown but Kofi fought out of it. The Bull Hammer is now his main but will use Wasteland on smaller opponents.
