So, this week WWE has finally come to terms with the living legend Bruno Sammartino and has inducted the man into their Hall of Fame. Sammartino’s induction reminds me of when I first became a fan of wrestling. It was my uncle who presented the world of pro wrestling to me and I remember getting my first glimpse of Hulk Hogan becoming the WWE Champion and saying he is the greatest champion ever. My uncle immediately put me in my place and told me stories of the man from Italy who held the strap for OVER EIGHT YEARS by squeezing the life out his opponent with his infamous Bear Hug. He also spoke of tales of the “Italian Superman” who would slap the abdominal stretch on so firm and fierce that after he would release his opponent, the victim would be two inches taller. As a kid I was in awe of these stories but it still didn’t take away from the short-lived intensity I had for Hulkamania. As I grew older, I was able to watch footage of Mr. Sammartino and appreciate not only his wrestling, but his toughness and grit that he brought to the sport. Although I know it was two different eras and wrestling styles, I can easily say Bruno would have crushed Hulk Hogan on any given night. This year’s Hall of Fame ceremony seems to be shaping up as one the fans of both the old and new will appreciate. Never say never my wrestling friends. With that I bring to you,

Face/Heel of the Week

Face of the Week: Chris Jericho (WWE)

THE AYATOLLAH OF ROCK ‘N ROLLA IS BACK BABY!!! Well, he was only gone for six months, but Chris Jericho’s return at the Royal Rumble gave us  the feeling like he was gone for years. The HUGE pop he received when he walked down the ramp proved to the naysayers that this future Hall of Famer is still loved and respected. Not only did he come into the Rumble at the number two spot, he didn’t stink up the place either (you see what I did there). Jericho and Dolph Ziggler lasted longer than most of the guys who were in the Rumble even though they had the first two spots. Plus, Jericho didn't do one spot, oh no, that’s not Jericho. In fact, this past Monday he once again proved that RAW is Jericho by competing in a return match from last year’s WrestleMania with “The Best in the World” CM Punk. The seesaw match brought out the best in both these men and can be already considered a Match of the Year candidate. Whether he’s a face or a heel, you will never, EEEEEEEEEEEEEVER see a wrestler like Chris Jericho, A-GAAAAIN!

Heel of the Week: Austin Aries (TNA)

Now THIS is one of the men I wanted to post last week but I was just waiting for the right moment. “The Greatest Man That Ever Lived” has been drawing comparisons to “The Best in the World”, but in my eyes, Double A, Austin Aries is a man in his own world. Aries is “the man you love to hate” but in fact, everyone likes this dude. He’s a face in heel’s clothing and the fans eat up everything he has to offer. After losing the TNA World Heavyweight Title, Aries seemed hell bent to get it back, but along the way he’s made a “friend” in Bobby Roode with an ego almost as big as his. This past Impact, Roode and Aries defeated Chavo Guerrero and Hernandez to capture the TNA Tag Team Championship. Austin Aries is aiming to capture as much gold as possible with the biggest prize being the one strapped around Jeff Hardy’s waist. Aries wants to be champion again? Hmmmmmmm, kind of reminds me of…
