Slick’s Wish List – July 2013

June is over and as I predicted, my pockets are a’hurtin’ from all the stuff I bought. July is not gonna be any better because it’s my birthday month, but in terms of Slick’s Wish List and the things that actually come out in July, we have some slim pickins. There is still a good handful of awesome things to have and experience this month, so get your wallets ready and remember – MTR staff all have wish lists on amazon. WE ACCEPT GIFTS!

Despicable Me 2

Let’s be real with ourselves here. We all fell in love with Gru as he fell in love with Margo, Edith and Agnes. We especially love Agnes because IT’S SO FLUFFY! But seriously, the minions stole the damn show and that is who we are going back to see. Come July 3, you will be just like me, waiting in line to see those little yellow bastards (not a Sin City promo).

The Legend of Korra – Book One: Air

Need more of a reason to disassociate the word “Avatar” with oversized smurf-monkeys? Meet Korra, the baddest bender since Aang. And a messmessage to that idiot Shyamalan, it’s pronounced “AENG,” not “AHNG,” you moron. Sorry, got sidetracked for a second. Book One of The Legend of Korra is available on blu-ray on July 9.

Pacific Rim

This is the big one. Seriously, this is literally the big one. Giant robots beating the snot out of giant alien monsters that rise from a portal on the Pacific Ocean floor. I don’t even need any story past that. I am so sold on this flick. I know that I am always the first to complain about a movie not having a plot, but this is the one where you turn your brain off and just go “oooooooooooooooooooh, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!” Guillermo del Toro is in charge though, so it probably will have a good story, but I DON’T CARE! MUST SEE IT NOW!!!! Pacific Rim hits theatres July 12.

Regular Show: The Complete First & Second Seasons

Does Slick enjoy watching pointless, idiotic comedy? YEAH, I DO! You know who ELSE likes watching pointless, idiotic comedy? MY MOM! Regular Show, seasons 1 & 2 are on blu-ray July 16 and all I can say about it is YAE-YUH! Go out and buy this blu-ray the day it drops or YOU’RE FIRED!

Shin Megami Tensei IV

Anyone that thinks that Nintendo is seeing its final days is heavily medicated. Like the blank stare of an anime character medicated. The Shin Megami Tensei series is a serious cult favorite amongst RPG players and this new installment is a 3DS exclusive. This may also be one of those titles that does not see a large release (at least in its original packaging) as it runs $50 and contains the game, a strategy/art book and a soundtrack CD, packaged in a slipcase featuring design art from Masayuki Doi (anyone looking to get Slick a birthday gift….this is a good choice!). Shin Megami Tensei IV will be in stores on July 16.

Red 2

July is really shaping up to be the sleeper hit month. The first Red was a great movie that did not get the recognition that it deserved. The sequel will likely have the same fate but I cannot wait to see it. Red is in theatres on July 19.

Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox

DC is great for making direct to video adaptations of some of its characters’ best stories and it looks like they will have another winner on their hands come month’s end. This is one of those time displacement stories and explaining it makes my head hurt. All I am gonna say is that Barry Allen moves so fast that he became the lightning bolt that hit him in the past, giving him the powers that made him The Flash. It will make sense when you see it. Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox hits blu-ray on July 30.
