Slick’s Quick Hits: John Carter

Disney’s next Franchise? John Carter has over 30 books

Looks like Disney is going to commemorate the passing of the Notorious B.I.G. in big fashion next year with John Carter. Carter was created by Edgar Rice Burroughs. The character is a born Virginian who served during the Civil War and seemingly died during that time in a cave. After that he was somehow transported to Mars and his body was restored. On Mars, or Barsoom as the natives call it, Carter is damn near what we would consider Superman due to the fact that Mars has less gravity then Earth (humans would be stronger and be able to jump much higher if we could walk about on Mars – fact). Also, due to him dying on Earth, he seems to be immortal on Barsoom, which leads to adventures that would make the likes of Conan stop and stare.

I first heard about the John Carter series from my mother, who has read the entire series of 30+ books and if Disney does it justice, we are in store for a new franchise from Disney that is going to make a mint if it is promoted properly and well accepted. This teaser alone has me wanting to see it. Keep an eye out for this one in 2012.
