Truth moment: I have been trying to fully read “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer‘s book “The Host” for a while now. I have read a little of it, but I haven't quite had the chance to sink my teeth into another 600-page book. Perhaps I should continue though, as the film adaptation of the novel is set to be released on March 29, 2013, plus, we already have a teaser trailer almost a year in advance. The movie will star Saoirse Ronan (“Hanna”) and is directed by Andrew Niccol.
The plot of the book/movie is simple: aliens have invaded the earth and have begun to take over the bodies and minds of all humans. After they inhabit the body of a human, the alien “souls” erase the human occupant and establish their claim over it’s body and mind.
Melanie Stryder‘s (Ronan) body has been inhabited by one of the aliens named Wanderer, but she herself refuses to completely lose herself and give in. She is also a part of a group of “rebels” who have tried to ward off complete inhabitation. The “Seeker”, who is in charge of Melanie's body, starts to worry about Wanderer's lack of control over her mind. Wanderer is flooded with Melanie's memories and her powerful feelings for Jared (her love interest –this is a Meyer book isn’t it) and her brother Jamie, and Wanderer soon finds herself having feelings for Melanie's former companions. She becomes desperate to find out whether they are still alive, and eventually becomes a part of the rebel group.
However, none of what I just told you about this is in this trailer you are about to watch. That’s right. NONE OF IT. It is just a weird trailer full of people wearing contacts that have been taken over by the aliens. Like a weird version of MJ’s “Black or White” video, but no one is dancing. Oh, and there’s the earth. I don’t like it, and quite frankly, it doesn’t make me care about this movie. But, give it a peek and let me know what you think.
