Slick’s Quick Hits: “V”

I really hope in reading this that you are old enough to remember the original “V” miniseries and Friday night TV show that aired in the mid-80’s because it is probably the only way you would watch the new show that debuted tonight on ABC. Alien visitation has been done to death in the years that have passed since the red-suited visitors first came to Earth and newcomers might ask “why should I watch this show?” The answer is simple: Aliens on Earth have never been done quite like this and V was a great show. I have high hopes for ABC’s newest series to carry the torch that was lit back in my childhood.

Can you tell who is human in this photo? If you have seen the previews then you know that Morena Baccarin (3rd from right) most definitely is not. She in fact is Anna, who back in the 80s would have been called Diana, the leader of the Visitors (actually Diana was not supreme leader like Anna is but she was still the “face” of her people). The big surprise in tonight’s opener is that someone else in the shot is not human and I was very surprised by that reveal. The show is definitely off to a good start using both material from the original show and putting a 2009 spin on things. The show opens to three questions: Where were you when JFK was assassinated? Where were you on 9/11? Where were you this morning? Something big is definitely coming. Anna has that beautiful smiling face and she is ALWAYS smiling. This show is gonna get ugly. Diana was never anywhere near this nice – and that makes Anna that much more terrifying. As in any society, not everyone shares the same views; not every visitor is an enemy and not every human is a friend.

Whose side are you on?

I for one cannot wait to find out. This is a show that should not be missed.

Dude, Vandervoort was TERRIBLE as Supergirl. Let’s hope that by becoming a sluttly lizard chik that bones the first piece o’ earth ass she sees makes for a better character.

I watched the premiere last night and it was ok. A lot of the interaction between the visitor and the son of the fbi agent were forced and downright cheesy. at least supergirl is in it. we’ll see if it gets better.

I was so excited about this when I first heard about it through the Jace Hall show. He’s one of the executive producers for the show. It was a great premiere and Scott Wolf still looks like a freshman in high school…but man one hell of a premiere to a great miniseries!

miniseries? From what I understand and what was said during the preview, this is Season 1, not a miniseries.
