Meet Gigawatt Courtesy Of Transformers X Back To The Future

Editor's Note: Our contact at Hasbro, unfortunately, forwarded a non-working purchase link from Wal-Mart. As of 11 PM on 7/2/20, we have not received an updated link for purchase and are now hearing that the Wal-Mart exclusive Gigawatt is sold out. While we are not sure what Hasbro plans to do to rectify the situation if anything we always want to keep readers up to date. You'll get another chance in October.

Back to the Future commemorates its 35th anniversary this week and Hasbro wants to celebrate the occasion by crossing over Back to the Future and Transformers. The crossover will take place in a brand new four-part series from IDW which will introduce the latest Autobot hero aptly name Gigawatt whose alternate mode is the iconic Delorean time machine used by Marty and Doc Brown. Check out the cover for issue #1.

Here is the plot synopsis for the four part series hitting comic shop shelves this fall. Marty McFly has just returned to his home sweet home, Hill Valley 1985, and everything's looking up… that is, until Marty and his friend Doc Brown's time machine attracts the attention of the Decepticons! With one small mistake, Marty finds himself thrust into adventure to stop the Decepticon plot in the past, present, and future… all with the help of a new time machine: the Autobot, Gigawatt!

Fans of Transformers and Back to the Future will be excited to hear that Gigawatt will be getting a special edition figure that is available for pre-order right now at Wal-Mart. Gigawatt will stand 5.5 inches tall in robot mode and transform into the iconic Delorean time machine in 17 steps. He will include a blaster and other accessories plus will have details inspired from the film including Doc Brown-style goggles, a flux capacitor chest piece, and time circuits. In time machine mode, the gullwing doors open and wheels rotate from vertical to horizontal to produce a hovering effect as seen at the end of the film. Check out a full gallery of Gigawatt pics below.

Fans will need need to act fast as Hasbro will only be releasing 1,985 Gigawatt figures. Each Gigawatt figure will be numbered to commemorate the release date of Back to the Future which was July 3, 1985.

If you miss the Wal-Mart release all is not lost as a second variant of Gigawatt will be available through HasbroPulse.com starting October 1, 2020, and at select retailers around the world to coincide with the release of Transformer/Back to the Future #1 which will be releasing on the same day at your local comic shop.
