Hellraiser & Hellraiser II are without a shadow of a doubt on my list of disturbing horror flicks. While Pinhead and The Cenobites were the stars of the films it was always the box that took center stage. For the uninformed Hellraiser was based on a book by Clive Barker called The Hellbound Heart. The Hellraiser films embraced the taboo nature of sadomasochism and also the levels one is will to sink to feel pleasure. “Pleasure” was brought to by the Lament Configuration aka LeMerchand’s Box which once solved would release hooked chains that ripped through flesh and prepared you for the Cenobite visit. The origins of the box were explained in later films that lacked the magic of these two horror classics. A must see for any true horror fan.
