No horror list is complete without this film. William Friedkin’s adaptation of William Peter Blatty’s book is considered the gold standard of horror and has received numerous accolades that validate that claim. The Exorcist had a great cast that made the movie feel real without going overboard on the subject matter. Too many possession films try to replicate The Exorcist but using over the top contortions and mimicking scenes from this classic film most times with disastrous results. Many feel that this horror film was ahead of its time when released in 1973 and I agree with that wholeheartedly. To say it is a must is putting it mildly. As a horror classic I classify this as a must have staple.
