August 1, PS4 and Xbox One employ some Shadow Tactics.

On August 2, despite the voices all around you, you are alone.

The Venturis Corporation wants their AI back. That’s where you come in. Tacoma is a narrative adventure set aboard a high-tech space station in the year 2088. As you go about your mission, you’ll explore every detail of how the station’s crew lived and worked, finding the clues that add up to a gripping story of trust, fear, and resolve in the face of disaster.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel

Usually PC games come to PlayStation. August 2, it's the other way around.

Among the nations on the Zemurian continent, the mighty Erebonian Empire has been quick to stake its claim militarily; yet politically, ugly bouts of internal conflict between the upper class and commoners struggling to rise to power have been steadily intensifying with each passing month. The Noble and Reformist Factions have been none too kind to one another over the years, and tensions between the two only stand to worsen if compromises aren't reached in the very near future.

Rean Schwarzer, like any other citizen of the Imperial nation, is no stranger to these rising conflicts: the class system has been deeply interwoven into the tapestry of Erebonian culture since the days of old. As a seventeen-year-old student preparing for his new life at Thors Military Academy, however, he notices that his crimson uniform differs from the standard outfits issued to his peers—typically green for commoners, and white for nobles.

Enter, Class VII of Thors Military Academy. For the first time in the prestigious academy's history, rank means nothing and skill means everything. With nine hand-picked students of various backgrounds and abilities, Rean included, Class VII readies itself to dive deep into the political quagmire that threatens not only them, but the very foundations of the Empire.

Slime-san

The reverse journey of Lemmywinks hits the Switch on August 3.

Slime-san was minding his own business, sliming around in a peaceful forest when suddenly…A giant worm appeared and gobbled him up!
Now deep within the worm's belly, Slime-san has to face a decision: Be digested by the incoming wall of stomach acid… Or jump, slide and slime his way through the worms intestines and back out its mouth!

Retro City Rampage DX

Homage to the original Grand Theft Auto hits the Switch August 3.

Retro City Rampage reimagines the open world crime genre in the '80s! Rampage the city, steal cars, or play over 60 story mode missions!

This remastered pop culture send-up features a full Story Mode of open world missions, along with Arcade Challenges for quick pick-up-and-play action. Explore the city by foot or by car, and discover minigames, customizations, collectibles, special guest stars, and more.

This would normally be the end of the home video section. I usually will only feature new movie releases or those coming to an HD format for the first time. However, New Releases This Week has to give an honorable mention to a new HD release of this film. A true classic, full of great one-liners and action. It even spawned a now-infamous South Park fight scene:

They Live (August 1, 2017 Steelbook Release)

They Live [SteelBook] [Limited Edition] [Blu-ray] [1988] - Front_Standard

John Carpenter wrote and directed this science fiction thriller about a group of aliens who try to take over the world by disguising themselves as Young Republicans. Wrestler Roddy Piper stars as John Nada, a drifted who makes his way into an immense encampment for the homeless. There he stumbles upon a conspiracy concerning aliens who have hypnotized the populace through subliminal messages transmitted through television, magazines, posters, and movies.

When Nada looks through special Ray-Bans developed by the resistance leaders, the aliens lose their clean-cut “Dan Quayle” looks and resemble crusty-looking reptiles. Nada joins the underground, teaming up with rebel-leader Frank (Keith David) to eradicate the lizard-like aliens from the body politic.

Rest in Peace, Rowdy Roddy Piper. This is but one of many memorable moments you gave us.
