1st Impression:
I hit play expecting something utterly terrible but instead I got something that was just plain weird. I think I am not too hung up on Sonic's look since it has a similar look to the Pokemon in Detective Pikachu. I don't understand why with all the advancements in animation they opted to go with a CGI version of Sonic. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is proof that you can make a stellar big-budget animated film and get people in the theater.

Sonic the Hedgehog is a few years late and the hype for the character is sadly not what it once was. While Jim Carrey is dialed in as Dr. Robotnik the fact is that getting kids invested in Sonic now is tough especially since he is not really being used in games or cartoons.

The Sonic mythos can carry a few films but this style and approach is not the way to start a franchise.

As a gamer, I'll check it out but I won't personally be running to the theaters to do so.
