The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Goes Gold

Three years in the making, the folks at CD Projekt Red are happy to announce that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has officially gone gold. In case you are not so familiar with the term, that means the game is done and ready for us to get our grubby little hands on it. To quote studio head Adam Badowski, “We worked so damn hard over the past three years to bring you this game.” That hard work is evident in the material that we have seen thus far. Last year we got a thirty-five minute long video of gameplay and I for one, was sold then and there. Last week, we got details of the expansion content which will have more gameplay than many full releases do these days. All signs point to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt being a game of the year contender and I am amongst those that cannot wait to get their hands on the title.

In the days before DLC, going gold meant the game was truly done; there was no tweaking or fixing glitches after the fact. Gamers got a good product or that franchise and/or company got a bad rep that meant fewer future sales. From what I have seen, CD Projekt Red remembers those days and is taking great pride in their work. May 19 will be the true judgement day, but let’s hope that more developers take after them in making the project as good as possible before the initial release.
